The American, one step away from Stenmark’s record, is also number one commercially: no one like her in skiing for earnings and popularity
Mikaela Shiffrin is updating the history books of alpine skiing, with an impressive sequence. On Tuesday she won her 83rd World Cup race overtaking compatriot Lindsey Vonn, the day after she did an encore at Plan de Corones climbing to 84, on Saturday at Spindleruv Mlyn she reached 85, approaching the absolute record of 86 victories in the myth Ingemar Stenmark. All this at the age of 28 yet to be completed (in March), with the clear intention of continuing to compete until the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. No other active skier can hold a candle to the comparison, on and off the slopes. Neither among women nor among men.
