James Gunn this week revealed his plans for Gods & Monsters, Chapter 1 of DC’s new connected universe. Currently there are already several series and movies confirmed for the next few years, but we know that there will also be various video games.
The creative reiterated that interactive entertainment will be an important part of DC’s new stage, since the titles will be connected to the rest of the productions. We now know that Gunn’s goal is for video games to maintain the canon and the same actors as their film or television counterparts.

Video games will be important in the new DC universe
During his recent presentation, Gunn spoke briefly about the role that video games will play in Gods & Monsters and in the following chapters of the DC connected universe. He made it clear that all products will be connected and will be guided by the same narrative.
In this sense, video games, movies and series will have the same characters and even the same actors. It was clarified that DC Elseworlds will continue to exist, so stories set in different places and times than the new main line will be published under this label.
For now it is not clear if video games will be able to enter this category to offer original stories to players or to be inspired by productions that belong to it. On the other hand, it is important to mention that no game has been confirmed for Gods & Monsters yet.
“The DC universe is connected in film, television, games, and animation. The characters are consistent, played by the same actors and it works in one story,” Gunn said.
Previously, DC fans expressed concern about this connection between all productions. They fear that the plans will go wrong, affect the creative freedom of the developers or that the community will be forced to consume certain productions to understand everything.
“I can’t tell you how much I despise this idea. Video games have become much bigger than what the movie industry could ever hope to achieve. They do not need forced connectivity. This is stripping the superhero gaming art form of one of its greatest assets: creative freedom,” a fan claimed in late 2022.
