Two 12-year-old twin girls throw themselves from the third floor: one is dead, the other seriously. The family: “victims of bullying”
Spain is shocked by the case of 12-year-old twin girls who tried to take their own lives together last Tuesday. The incident took place in Sallent, near Barcelona, where the two sisters jumped from the balcony of the apartment they lived in, on the third floor. One of the two died instantly, while the other was seriously injured.
The reason for the gesture has yet to be clarified: relatives and friends told the local press that the two, who moved from Argentina two years ago, suffered from depression due to bullying and that the school was aware of it. The Department of Education maintains instead that there were no reports of bullying.
According to reports from El Pais, one of the sisters was undertaking a gender transition process and would have been targeted at school by her classmates. “He cut his hair short and asked to be called Iván,” said a student at the institute where they studied. “And some called him Ivana,” she added. The two had also received psychological assistance in the school and, together with their family, were followed by social services.
At the time of the tragedy, only the father was present in the house who did not realize what was happening while the mother was at work. At the house, two letters were found that the Catalan police forces are analyzing.
