ANKARA – Earthquake devastating magnitude 7.8 rocked Turki and several surrounding countries, Monday (6/2/2023) morning. In Turkey, the death toll has risen to 15.
Local officials told AFP that the number of dead victims found was 15 people.
Five of the deaths were reported in Osmaniye province and another 10 in Sanliurfa, which is near Turkey’s border with Syria.

In Atmed, Syria, doctor Muheeb Qaddour told The Associated Press (AP) news agency that at least 11 people died in the northwestern city. He said many others were buried under the rubble.
“We fear the deaths are in the hundreds,” he told the AP.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said search and rescue teams had been dispatched to the quake-hit areas.

“We hope to get through this disaster together as soon as possible and with the least damage,” Erdogan wrote on Twitter.
As well as impacting Syria, the quake, centered in southeastern Turkey, was also felt in Lebanon, Israel and Cyprus.
