Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona the lead after 18 minutes. The Polish attacker did that by using a penalty kick awarded after a foul by Bruno Fernandes on Alejandro Balde. Fernandes had missed the chance to score the opening goal himself. The Portuguese saw his effort turned by the German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
In the final phase of the first half Fred was still close to the equalizer. However, the Brazilian’s effort landed on target, rather than in it.
Shortly after the restart, Fred did score. He did that after being played nicely by Fernandes. Antony made it 2-1 about fifteen minutes before the end. The Brazilian substitute, a former Ajax player, hit the target after an attempt by Alejandro Garnacho was blocked by a Spanish defender.
Manchester United awaits another important game on Sunday at Wembley. Then the club will play in the final of the English League Cup against Newcastle United.
Wout Weghorst was again a basic player at Manchester United. He was replaced half way through by Antony, who was fit to take office again.
