Tottenham Hotspur can no longer have Rodrigo Bentancur this season. The midfielder from Uruguay sustained a knee injury in Saturday’s 4-1 loss against Leicester City. According to English media, including The Guardian, Bentancur has suffered damage to a cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for at least six months. The club has not yet reported anything about the seriousness of the injury.
The 25-year-old Uruguayan is a permanent fixture in the team of coach Antonio Conte. He scored five goals in eighteen Premier League games. Only striker Harry Kane is more productive for the Spurs, who are in fifth place.
The English team will face AC Milan in the eighth finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. In addition to Bentancur, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and midfielder Yves Bissouma are also missing for the time being. The French goalkeeper suffered a knee injury last week and has been out for about six weeks. Bissouma underwent surgery on Friday for a stress fracture in his left ankle.
