The two countries have had friendly relations for a long time, during the times of the Soviet Union. Indonesia and Russia also cooperate in various aspects, one of which is in the field of military engineering. So what is the military comparison between Russia and Indonesia?

Russia
As a country whose military strength is among the top three in the world, Russia has various advantages, both in terms of budget, defense equipment, and the number of military personnel. Even though Russia’s population is much smaller than Indonesia’s, there are more active Russian military personnel. Russia has an active military force of 830,900 people, or two times more than Indonesia. Meanwhile, Russia’s total defense budget is USD 82,600,000,000.
The defense equipment that strengthens the Russian air force includes 773 combat aircraft, 744 ground attack aircraft, 444 transport aircraft, and 144 special mission aircraft. Russia also has 1,531 helicopters, 537 combat helicopters.
As for the ground forces, Russia occupies the first place in the rating of the power of the battle tank fleet, with a total of 12,566 units. In addition to battle tanks, the Russian military is reinforced with 151,641 armored vehicles, 6,575 mobile artillery units, 3,887 rocket launchers.

The strength of the Russian naval fleet is in the 2nd position in the world, after China, with a total asset of 598 units. The defense equipment owned by the Russian navy includes 11 frigates, 86 corvettes, 70 submarines, 1 aircraft carrier, 59 patrol boats and 49 minesweepers.
Russia is also the country with the most nuclear weapons. Russia’s total stockpile of nuclear weapons is 5,997 warheads, with about 1,500 retired, according to the Federation of American Scientists.
Indonesia
The population of Indonesia is bigger than Russia. This is a strength for Indonesia because it has a supply of manpower that can be deployed for battle if needed. However, the number of Indonesian military personnel is only around 400 thousand active personnel, or roughly half of Russia’s active military army. Likewise in terms of the defense budget, Indonesia is far behind compared to Russia, with a total of USD 8,800,000,000.
