THE HAGUE – There are strong indications that the President Russia Vladimir Putin decided to supply the missile that shot down the plane Malaysia Airlines MH-17 in 2014 ago. This was revealed by international investigators on the case.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17 was hit by a Russian-made missile over Ukraine, killing nearly 300 people.
The Boeing 777 was flying from the Dutch capital to Kuala Lumpur when it was hit by a Russian-made surface-to-air missile in July 2014. It happened during the conflict between pro-Russian rebels and Ukrainian troops in Ukraine’s Donbas region.
Of the 298 passengers and crew, 196 were Dutch while many of the other passengers were from Malaysia, Australia, Britain, Belgium and other countries.
Prosecutors said there was evidence that Putin decided to provide heavy weaponry to the Moscow-backed separatists. But there is no indication that Putin ordered the plane to be shot down.
However, the international team tasked with investigating those responsible for the missile launch said they had exhausted all leads and could not resume criminal proceedings.
The Joint Investigation Team cited a Dutch court which ruled last year that Moscow had “overall control” of the Donetsk People’s Republic, which took control of the area in July 2014.
The team described a recorded telephone conversation in which Russian officials said the decision to provide military support “is up to the President.”

“There is concrete information that the separatist request was conveyed to the president, and the request was granted,” the team said as quoted by the BBC, Thursday (9/2/2023).
