WASHINGTON – The administration of United States (US) President Joe Biden may be waiting to shoot down a Chinese balloon over the Atlantic.
A senior US official with knowledge of the situation explained the plan to the media. Some have reportedly deemed it too risky to attempt dropping it on the continental US.
According to the insider, the United States wants to capture the balloon to study it, and is working on plans to shoot the balloon down to land in US territorial waters to avoid an international incident.
The source added the action would require a substantial closure of the local airspace.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden told journalists, “We’ll take care of it”, when a reporter asked him if the US would shoot down the balloon.
The high-altitude balloons could be off the US East Coast “as early as Saturday morning,” according to weather models from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The balloon is now believed to be hovering over North Carolina.
US Department of Defense spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said Friday that the balloon had “changed course” and drifted toward the center of the country.
After the balloon was discovered in the state of Montana late Thursday, US officials began asking the Biden administration to shoot it down.
Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) urged President Biden to have his balloon shot down “immediately.” He showed his predecessor, Donald Trump, would. Incidentally, Trump and his son, Donald Jr, agreed with MTG’s assessment.
