Along with Pádraic, Colm and Siobhán, a small group of characters lives on the island who are also affected by the events that set the story in motion.. On the one hand, Dominic Kearney, son of Peadar Kearney, the island policeman, is involved in the story. Dominic doesn’t have a happy relationship with his father, explains McDonagh, “It’s an abusive relationship. His mother has disappeared and we don’t know where he went. The policeman is not nearly the nicest person in the world. So Dominic carries a lot of that sadness and horror.”
The town is also home to Jonjo, who runs the town’s only bar, and his best friend Gerry, who practically lives there. “To some extent, they both represent the island community in the story. We see a lot of the humor and horror that take place in the story through his eyes,” says McDonagh.
Finally, Mrs. McCormick lives in Inisherin, an old woman who watches and listens to everything that happens around her.
