If there is a product that we did not expect to see at MWC 2023, it was precisely a tablet with a 3D screen. Well, that is one of the novelties that ZTE has brought, the Nubia Pad 3Dthe first tablet that allows you to view content in three dimensions without the need for glasses.
According to the company, this device incorporates a technology that allows “call, stream and game in 3D“, as well as “share and create content” in three dimensions. Artificial intelligence also plays an important role in the operation of the system so, without further ado, let’s get to know it a little better.
A tablet with a 3D screen in the middle of 2023
ZTE’s nubia Pad 3D uses Leia’s technology and application ecosystem. In fact, the tablet is very, very similar to Leia’s Luma Pad 2. The device incorporates a 12.4 inch IPS panel with 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution that you can switch between 2D content and 3D content without glasses with face tracking. It has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a 16:10 format.
We will now talk about the rest of the specifications, but first let’s stop at the screen. The device incorporates a “light field diffractive backlighting” system, aka DLB between the screen and the backlight typical of an IPS panel. When we view content in 2D, the screen works like a standard tablet, but when we activate 3D, light passes through the DLB layerwhich is responsible for generating the 3D effect and emitting the image in up to eight viewing angles.
That, together with face tracking system Based on artificial intelligence, it allows (on paper) that 3D content can be viewed from different positions. That’s the theory, at least. We will have to wait until we can test it.
And where does the 3D content come from? from three places. On the one hand, there is Leia’s ecosystem, which has its own application store with more than 50 3D games from companies such as Gameloft or Invitus, more than 1,200 educational 3D scenes and integration with Mozaic3D. There is also a 3D chat, 3D media streaming, 3D theater, etc.
Secondly, the tablet has a neural network and learning algorithms that allow convert massive 2D content (such as streaming media, games, movies…) in 3D experiences. In other words, from what ZTE explains, everything points to the fact that the tablet is capable of converting things like a YouTube video or a game that we have installed into 3D using artificial intelligence and in real time.
And third is the user generated content. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of recording a 3D view by adopting the principle of stereoscopic perception of the human eye. The rear dual camera is 16-megapixel and is dedicated to recording, while the front dual camera can be used for 3D video calls.
Otherwise, it is a tablet with powerful components. The Nubia Pad 3D mounts the Snapdragon 888 (which is not, by far, the latest Qualcomm processor), UFS 3.1 internal storage and LPDDR5 RAM (quantities not determined, unfortunately). Its battery is 9,070 mAh with 33W fast charging and, finally, it is worth noting the four symmetrical Dolby Atmos speakers and the microSD card slot of up to 1 TB.
Versions and price of the ZTE Nubia Pad 3D
ZTE has not revealed the versions or the price of the ZTE Nubia Pad 3D. What he has confirmed is that it will be available for pre-sale in March, so we will have to wait until then.
