The Last of Us is one of the best video games of the last decade. It is clear that adapting it to a TV series was a complicated task, and certainly the challenges arose from the moment of choosing the actors. Despite the fact that many fans showed their discontent with him, Pedro Pascal has already proven himself worthy of playing Joel.
Because he is a fan of Craig Mazin for his work on the acclaimed Chernobyl series, the famous Chilean actor wanted to participate in the series based on the Naughty Dog video game. Even though he got the role, he completely forgot about it for a very peculiar reason.
During a recent interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Pedro Pascal talked about HBO’s The Last of Us series. There, he explains that he was very excited and wanted to be a part of the show after reading the scripts. At one point in the audition process, he spoke with showrunner Craig Mazin.
The actor explains that he was in London at the time, while the producers spoke from Los Angeles, California. The time difference played a trick on him.

Pedro Pascal was asked to stay up to speak with Neil Druckmann, producer of the show and co-founder of Naughty Dog. “By this time, it is already very late and I have to get up in the morning. I took a sleeping pill to go to sleep, just in case, because my adrenaline and hopes were rising, ”he commented.
What happens next is hilarious. After taking the pill and possibly being numb, he got the call from the people in charge of The Last of Us to let him know that he got the part. However, he completely forgot about it due to the effect of the sleeping pill. “I got excited, I guess, but I didn’t remember it.”
Finally, Pedro Pascal clarifies that he woke up without knowing that he already got the job. In the interview with Jimmy Fallon, he jokes about how he would have to wait all day to get the call from the producers and get the verdict due to the time difference. It was at the moment when he saw the congratulatory messages on his cell phone that he remembered that he got the role of Joel in the HBO series. “Oh yeah, I got the job!” he remarked he happily.
