Without a doubt, one of the most controversial episodes of HBO’s The Last of Us so far is the third, as it leaves Joel and Ellie aside to focus on the relationship between Bill and Frank. Despite the controversy, the actors who played these minor characters have already expressed interest in reprising their roles in another project.
The Last of Us: Bill and Frank series? Actors want it that way
In an interview with the GamesRadar+ portal and other media, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett, who play Bill and Frank, respectively, talked about their characters’ relationship in The Last of Us live action series.
They ensure that this story feels like a movie, since it has a beginning and an end within the same chapter.
“It’s amazing that this episode covers such a large part of the lives of these two people. It’s one of the things that makes it so special, to see, from the beginning, how this connection develops (…) It really allows you to see the full blossoming of this relationship. But yeah, how cool would it be to go back and fill in all those gaps,” said Murray Bartlett.

Right away, Nick Offerman picks up on his colleague’s comment and jokes about the possibility of doing a spin-off. Although his comment has humorous overtones, it seems that his interest in exploring more about Bill and Frank’s relationship is genuine.
“You’re right. We can imagine a spin-off. We have done nothing but fantasize about that possibility: prequels, epilogues or whatever. We start a family, there are quantum physics timelines, multiverses… you name it. Well, yeah, I mean, it would be wonderful to see a lot of the things played out, a lot of those dynamics that we skipped over because we covered about 20 years,” Offerman said.

Certainly, a spin-off series focused on Bill and Frank exploring the past of their love relationship and the problems they faced in a post-apocalyptic world on the verge of collapse could be very interesting.
The third episode of The Last of Us debuted on Sunday, January 29. Despite the fact that it had excellent audience levels, it was the victim of review bombing by users who expressed their discontent with Bill and Frank’s openly homosexual relationship.
