Dusan Tadic crowned his 150th league match for Ajax with an assist on the winning goal of the game against Vitesse (2-1). Edson Álvarez headed in after a corner kick from his captain. The Mexican kept his team in the footsteps of leader Feyenoord, which maintains a lead of 3 points.
Tadic shrugged when he heard after the win that he has been involved in 151 goals in 150 league games, with 73 hits and 78 assists. “I knew I had pretty good stats,” he replied. “That’s nice. But it’s about our team. If the team plays well, everyone can show themselves.”
Tadic saw Ajax fall behind after a header from Marco van Ginkel. The midfielder showed that the team from Amsterdam, even with trainer John Heitinga on the bench, remains vulnerable at corners. “We have to defend like animals,” Tadic grumbled. “You have to do everything you can to prevent your opponent from scoring. This really has to be improved.”
Tadic acknowledged that Ajax had to go deep for the win. “But that’s also because we’re falling behind again,” he said. “We talked a lot after Thursday’s defeat in Berlin. We knew we had to put a lot of energy into this game. Fortunately, we showed in the second half that we can do better. Although we also failed to finish the game with a third goal in large part to decide.”
