WASHINGTON – Embassy Russia in Washington said United States of America (US) reiterated its direct involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine . The statement came after US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said the military site at Crimea are legitimate targets for Ukraine, and the US supports attacks against them.
“Nuland acknowledged that the (Biden) administration fueled the ambitions of the Kiev regime to attack our country,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement as quoted by RT, Friday (17/2/2023).
According to the Russian embassy, the words of the top American official are a clear confirmation of Russia’s position that the US is directly involved in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

The statement added that Washington had not only used rhetoric but also taken “actual action” by supplying modern weapons and advising Ukraine’s military leaders, and that de facto, they were planning joint operations.
Citing American and Ukrainian officials, the Washington Post reported last week that Kiev forces would not fire a single shot from a US-supplied artillery system without first confirming target coordinates with the Americans.
“Instigating the criminals of Kiev to attack Crimea is tantamount to encouraging them to attack Moscow or Vladivostok,” the Russian embassy insisted, adding that Russia would defend its territory in any case.

Crimea voted to reunite with Russia in 2014 after the violent coup in Kiev. Ukraine still views the peninsula as part of its territory, with the US sharing that stance.
In her interview on Thursday with the American think tank the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Nuland said the US believes that Kiev owes and is entitled to all of their territory within their international borders, including Crimea.

“Ukraine will not be safe unless Crimea is – at a minimum, at a minimum – demilitarized,” he stressed, adding that the Biden administration supports Kiev’s efforts to target the peninsula.
“Washington’s support for the attack on Crimea is an undisguised manifestation of the US belligerent attitude towards our country,” insisted the Russian Embassy.
