The singer Rihanna, guest star this year for the Super Bowl halftime showassured this Thursday that it was motherhood that gave her the strength to accept participating in a scenario as “intimidating” as this one.
“I was three months postpartum and I was wondering, should I be making decisions like these now? Maybe I’ll regret it later,” the singer confessed at the press conference on the occasion of her participation in the events of the American football grand finale, to be held this Sunday in Glendale (Arizona, USA).
But it was precisely motherhood, she said, which gave him the certainty that he was capable of facing a stage as big as that of the sporting event, and that he has not acted in seven years.
“When you become a mother, something happens that you feel like you can do anything; As scary as it was, there was something exhilarating about the challenge of this.”recounted the 34-year-old singer.
Rihanna also assured that it was important for her to show on one of the most important stages in the world that a black woman from a country like Barbados could go so far.
“I represent immigrants from my country, black women from all over the world, It is important that people see that there are possibilities and it’s an honor for me to be a part of the show this year,” he said.
In 2018 Rihanna rejected the offer to be part of the show that she leads today in support of the African-American community in solidarity with the player Colin Kaepernick dand the San Francisco 49ers.
The player was banned from his team in 2016 after protesting racial injustice and police brutality, and in response, several artists refused to be part of halftime in subsequent years.
This time Rihanna has accepted and, as she explained, she is very focused on rehearsals for this show, in addition to acknowledging that she is very strict with details.
“I’m very bossy and can be irritating to those around me,” pointed out the singer, who justified this way of working because in the end, if the show succeeds or fails, it is her name that leads it.
The NFL’s Super Bowl LVII will face the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (USA). In addition to Rihanna’s main half-time performance, there will be others before the game begins.
Thus, the actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph will interpret “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds will sing “America the Beautiful” and finally the country artist Chris Stapleton will be in charge of interpreting, as usual, the United States national anthem Joined.
Rihanna will take over from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar, who were chosen for the 2022 Super Bowl break in which the Los Angeles Rams were proclaimed champions at their home (SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles) by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals.
