The Ligurian goalkeeper took over from the injured Dragowski after being signed in the last winter transfer market thanks to the breaking of Zoet’s crusader
Federico Marchetti is back. The backup goalkeeper from Spezia, who turned 40 on 7 February, took over for the injured Dragowski in the 25th minute of the first half in this afternoon’s match against Juventus and thus got back on the pitch over a year and a half later away from last time. In fact, when he wore the Genoa shirt, Marchetti had been the starter on 13 August 2021 in the Coppa Italia match won by the Grifone at home against Perugia (3-2). From then on he was divided between the bench and the stands under the Lanterna, he remained without a contract for six months before signing ten days before the end of the last winter transfer market for Spezia. Reason? In the home match against Atalanta in early January, Zoet had seriously injured his right knee (cruciate injury) and Gotti, coach at the time, was left alone with Dragowski and the young Zovko. Marchetti had a month to get back in shape and train with his team mates and today he’s back in the fray. It wasn’t a lucky debut for Federico as, just 7 minutes after coming onto the pitch, he conceded Kean’s 1-0 goal following a Kostic cross. And then he was also punched in the second half by Di Maria.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for Marchetti’s last appearance in the league, you have to go back to 15 May 2021 when Genoa had been defeated 4-3 at home by Atalanta. It was the penultimate day and the Griffon was already safe. So far it hasn’t been a lucky season for the goalkeepers of Spezia given that in addition to Zoet, out until next year, Dragowski hurt his ankle on November 13 (and lost the World Cup), but he was knocked out again today by a muscle problem. Marchetti, therefore, after 7 seasons at Lazio, 4 at Genoa and the experience with the national team (where he was the third goalkeeper at Euro 2016 and played at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa thanks to Buffon’s injury), is now ready to defend the Juventus goal until the Pole returns. For him the identity card does not count.
