This mass riot occurred last Saturday at the Warburton Police Station, Nankana District.
The senior police officer, Babar Sarfaraz Alpa, said the man, Mohamad Waris, was in his 20s.

Alfa said hundreds of angry mobs stormed the Warburton police station where some protesters used wooden ladders to climb over walls and open the main gate to the angry crowd.
He said the mob searched the entire police station and dragged Waris out of the prison cell.
“By the time police reinforcements were able to arrive at the scene, the mob finished off the man and was about to burn his body. But the police, with the help of ‘saneer’ people in the area thwarted their efforts,” he said.
Alfa said Waris was arrested in 2019 on charges of blasphemy and will be in prison until mid-2022.
He said Waris again insulted the Koran on Saturday morning and people who saw him caught him and started beating him. However, the police rescued Waris and detained him.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the mob incident and called on Punjab police chief to take action against police officers who failed to protect the suspect while in custody.
Alfa said the lynching of Waris would be investigated.
Punjab Police Chief Usman Anwar, as quoted by AP, Monday (13/2/2023), has suspended the head of the police station and deputy district superintendent for negligence in their duties and failure to prevent the attack on the police station and failure to prevent the murder.
