GENOA, 06 FEB – The portrait of Rubens, exhibited until yesterday at the opening of the Palazzo Ducale exhibition, has arrived at the Ariston Theater in Sanremo. The painting, an oil on canvas measuring 66×50 cm, left Genoa this morning. Shortly before 9 it was detached from the wall on which it was positioned and was subjected to the ‘condition report’ procedure to guarantee its integrity and document its conditions, the same that will also be carried out when entering and leaving the Ariston. Transported inside a crate aboard a Fine Art van, the painting reached Sanremo where the curator of the Genoese exhibition, Anna Orlando, was waiting for it. “After having decided to sponsor the restoration of the altarpiece of the Circumcision located in the Church of Jesus in Genoa – recalls the Ligurian governor and regional councilor for culture Giovanni Toti – we wanted to carry out this initiative with the ‘Guest of honor’ project for link the great success of the exhibition dedicated to Rubens with the Sanremo Festival, in order to make this extraordinary Flemish painter known by involving the whole territory, with an international limelight as well. It is a way to create a link between different forms of art, pictorial and singing, both represented at the highest levels with Rubens, pop icon of painting and the singers of the most followed event in the country and also abroad”. “We are pleased to be able to give space to this initiative too – adds the mayor of Sanremo Alberto Biancheri – undertaken with the Liguria Region.
