RKC Waalwijk failed to win the Eredivisie for the third time in a row. The team from Brabant did not get further than a draw at Excelsior in Rotterdam: 0-0.
RKC had enough chances to score a goal. Excelsior goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel kept his team going before the break with a header from Iliass Bel Hassani. The post also saved Excelsior twice, which was even better in the first fifteen minutes. Mats Seuntjens and Julen Lobete were close to scoring.
Excelsior also became a bit more dangerous after the break. After a cross from Siebe Horemans, Reda Kharchouch was just not able to head hard enough in the right direction in the 51st minute. Midfielder Kenzo Goudmijn shot the ball against the bar from a distance.
The biggest chance was also now for RKC. Van Gassel distinguished himself again shortly before the end, this time with an attempt by substitute Michiel Kramer.
RKC has taken 8 points from the last four matches and is now in ninth place. Excelsior is number 13 and has 6 points less than RKC.
