the library of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s sister channel for adults, is full of irreverent animated series like Rick & Morty, Robot Chicken or Smiling Friends. One of the first was Space Ghost Coast to Coastfrom which he derived Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Fritox, Almond and Batitron They form an unusual superhero team. At least, they did in the early seasons, because Adult Swim needed something to justify them being fast food anthropomorphic: Fritox is uan box of crisps, Batitrón is a smoothie and Almond… well, its name says it all.
Although the series aired between 2001 and 2015, a new seasonwhich will come after this film that has just come out in HBO Max (although it was released on DVD and Blu Ray at the end of 2022 in the United States)
In Spain, Aqua Teen Hunger Force It is not so well known, since only a few seasons were broadcast on TNT, and they have not been preserved online (it has also come to have some horrible video games), but HBO Max has released it on February 8, and dubbed into Spanish.

Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasma
What is Aqua Teen Hunger Force and what cave did it come from?
The arrival of Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm to HBO Max Spain (and when it comes, the probable arrival of the recently announced twelfth season) further rounds out the catalog of an ideal platform for lovers of adult animation.
It’s no surprise that HBO Max is also home to one of the first Adult Swim-style adult animation series made in Spain, Poor Devil (created by Joaquín Reyes, Ernesto Sevilla and Miguel Esteban).
It’s a shame we don’t also have the Aqua Teen Hunger Force series, or at least a season, as we think the “twenty minute episodes” format is more appropriate if you want to get into the world of Aqua Teen than a feature film ( no matter how short) You can get sick if you don’t connect with his type of humor.
Continuity is not a problem. Plantasma tells an independent “story”and you don’t have to worry about looking for continuity or coherence. In fact, those are two concepts that the creators, Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis, have shyed away from since the beginning of the series.
In the style of Kenny from South Park, it was common for one of the three protagonists to die, or for a chapter to end dramatically, only to be “reset” in the next one without giving any explanation.
But Aqua Teen Hunger Force took its disregard for consistency even further, to the point where it became a complete disregard for logic. In her long career at Adult Swim, she consistently they played with the absurd even at the “structural” level.
These are just a few examples of the “pirouettes” what Aqua Teen has done in its fifteen years of history:
-From season 8, each season the name of the series changed (things like Aqua Something You Know Whatever or Aqua TV Show Show), which misled viewers and also networks or databases, who don’t know if they are independent seasons or miniseries.
-Throughout the third season, the creators were pasting fragments of a pilot for another series that was rejected by the chain in the “cold openings” until completing the entire episode at the end of the season.
-And in 2015, the chapter The Last One Forever and Ever (For Real This Time) (We Fucking Mean It), was advertised in 2015 as if it were the last of the series, when in fact it was the penultimate (and the true ending). was uploaded without warning on the Internet).
Is the movie Aqua Teen Forever: Plantsma worth it?
This is how Aqua Teen Hunger Force spends them. Don’t worry, therefore, if you want to see the aqua teen movie without having seen the rest of the series (which, at the moment, is impossible to do in Spain legally).
The other question is whether you will enjoy the film. And that is totally subjective: we can tell you that he has a kind of humor more rude than intelligent: lots of swearing, lots of explicit content and lots of satire on society, but in a way that is perhaps too surreal.
They mess with the Elon Musk-style eccentric millionairesmegacorporations style Amazon (and how they exploit workers and the environment), and in a way they also seem to talk about the rise of veganism. But it is all so exaggerated that the only thing that seeks to provoke they are laughed at by the atrocities they release or show, nothing more (no less).
There are funny moments, but other gags don’t, and they go on too long. There are some very clever character designs (the two alien races clashing), some very meta “guests”, and it just flies by because it’s 70 minutes long.
In general, I laughed more with the secondary characters, by way of punctual sketch than with any of the three protagonists, who I found unbearable.
Today there are animated series or movies for adults more elaborate or visually interesting (if it’s like the series, it’s done in After Effects), with protagonists who are not disgusting (I understand that it’s absurd, but why do they have to be fast food? It’s stupid and I don’t see the humor in it) and that it doesn’t make up for the lack of ideas with the joker of “absurd humor” to drop the first thing that comes to mind.
Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm is available on HBO Max with a good dubbing into Spanishand that lasts 70 minutes.
If you’ve already exhausted other adult animation series like Smiling Friends, Robot Chicken, YOLO, or you just want to get into one of Adult Swim’s oldest series, give it a try (although you might prefer to watch one of the shorts on YouTube to see if you like his brand of humor).
