TRIESTE, 10 FEB – With a solemn ceremony at the National Monument of the Foiba di Basovizza, Remembrance Day is celebrated today in the Trieste Karst, to commemorate the victims of the sinkholes, the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the dramatic events on the eastern border in the years post-war horse. The celebrations at the Monument are promoted by the Municipality of Trieste and by the Committee for the Martyrs of the sinkholes. Present, among others, the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, the mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, the group leader of the dem in the Chamber, Debora Serracchiani, civil and military authorities. In the area of the ceremony, the banners of, among others, the Municipalities of Trieste and Muggia and the Fvg Region are lined up. Flags and banners of the representations linked to the exiles are also displayed. Also present the banner of the X Mas. Among the audience are several students from local institutes who attend the commemoration. After the flag-raising ceremony, in the presence of a picket of the Piedmont Cavalry Regiment 2/o, honors were rendered to the martyrs of the sinkholes and laurel wreaths were placed in front of the large sinkhole by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, by the Fvg Region and the Municipality of Trieste, by the president of the Committee for the Martyrs of the Foibe and of the National League, Paolo Sardos Albertini, and a wreath by the representatives of the associations of Istrian, Fiumani and Dalmatian Exiles.
