Due to “a number of setbacks”, the recovery of cyclist Amy Pieters is less prosperous than hoped, according to an update on the website of her SD Worx team. The 31-year-old Pieters has to deal with epileptic seizures.
Pieters crashed at the end of 2021 during road training, near Calpe, Spain. She lost consciousness as a result and suffered serious brain damage. Pieters had to undergo surgery and was in a coma for months.
“It has been quiet around Pieters for a while and there are reasons for that. Her rehabilitation is sometimes less successful. This is mainly due to a number of setbacks she has had to deal with. Pieters has had several epileptic attacks in a short time that slowed her recovery SD Worx reports.
“As a result, she has suffered a decline in her mobility and, moreover, her motivation to recover has also been made somewhat more difficult by the adjusted medication. This is a difficult period for her, but also for everyone who works and interacts with her.”
