It belongs to Diego’s former manager, who last October gave the print that reproduces it to the keepers of the Pibe shrine
As if it were a sacrilege, the theft that took place last night in Naples, Quartieri Spagnoli, from Largo Maradona – the space dedicated to Diego in via Emanuele de Deo is now so universally recognized -: at the foot of the famous mural around which a real shrine, a painting reproducing the cast of Maradona’s left foot was stolen.
A cast owned by the manager and friend of the Argentine champion, Stefano Ceci who on October 30, on the occasion of Diego’s birthday, and almost two years after his death, gave the print that reproduces it to the organizers and keepers of the Maradona shrine. The picture had remained there, with its golden frame, among hundreds of memorabilia and “ex voto” that no one has ever touched. A decidedly strange theft considering that for years all the memorabilia, some kept in a display case, have been exposed day and night to the enormous flow of fans, enthusiasts and simple tourists who visit the Maradona shrine every day, the most loved and not only in Naples. Fortunately, the heirloom was found in the early afternoon.
