If Prime Video cannot win in any other way, it will do so at the checkbook. He already garnered admiring glances and the occasional sarcastic comment when he produced what holds the record for the most expensive television series in history, “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.” Not content with that, he also boasts of second place: ‘Citadel’which we will see on April 28, is the second most expensive series in history: six episodes, 235 million budget (yes, a bit by accident: the original intention was for it to only cost 160).
Those responsible are used to working with substantial budgets: they are the Russo brothers, responsible for Marvel’s iconic ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, among other notorious MCU films. Although they have not managed to raise their heads after that explosion at the box office (‘The Invisible Agent’ for Netflix, despite its also exorbitant budget, was a considerable puncture), they are going to try again with this ‘Citadel’ for Amazon.
In it they will follow an international spy organization called Citadel. Or rather his remains, since an evil organization is responsible for his defeat and years later, two agents whose memory has been erased they reunite to recover their memories and their identity and find out what happened at their previous job. They are played by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who are joined by Stanley Tucci as a former partner in the organization.
Prime Video’s intention is to create a franchise of international scope: the first spin-off, set in Italy and starring Matilda De Angelis, has already been shot. The Indian version, with which Amazon clearly wants to put its foot in one of the most profitable markets in the world, is being shot. An ambitious project with which Amazon plays a lot and the Russos and their fame as infallible, too.
