Although the weather will be warm in most of the country, the interaction between the polar jet stream and the subtropical current will leave its mark in the northwest of the country, where gusts can approach 100 km/h and the temperatures drop below -10ºC.
The jet streams, protagonists. The polar jet stream is blowing over the northwest of the country, very close to the current circulation of the subtropical jet stream. These currents, despite circulating through relatively high layers of the atmosphere, can interact not only with each other but also with the orography of the terrain.
This interaction may cause precipitation, but mainly it will bring strong gusts of wind throughout the north of the country. Gusts of wind that may cause dust storms and whose intensity will migrate from west to east as the sections of the jet streams that are close to each other advance in that direction.
What does this imply? Today, Tuesday, it is expected that gusts of between 80 and 100 km/h will be reached with dust storms in Chihuahua Durango, and gusts of between 60 and 80 km/h with dust storms in Baja California and Sonora. In addition, waves of two to three meters high could occur on the western coast of Baja California.
Three days with snow. The meander of the polar front will also bring a polar trough starting Wednesday that will contribute to the cold in the northwest area. It will be accompanied by intense rainfall for that same day in northern Baja California and Sonora, rainfall that will be punctually intense in northern Baja California and Sonora.
Minimum temperatures will drop below -10ºC as of Thursday in the mountainous areas of Sonora and Chihuahua, and will be below -5ºC in mountainous areas of Baja California and Durango.
The combination of polar cold and precipitation will bring snow this week. This nine may appear between today in the extreme northwest and Thursday, when it will move to the state of Chihuahua following the polar trough.
Succession of cold fronts: 37 is approaching. While the cold front 36 fades to the northeast of the country, the next front approaches from the west. The cold front number 37 will enter the country on Wednesday, accompanying the polar trough and the zone of interaction between the polar jets. This cold front is expected to leave the country already on Friday.
Stability the rest of the country. The situation will be very different in a large part of the country, which will enjoy warmer and more stable days, largely thanks to the high pressure system at medium levels of the atmosphere. This anticyclone will, yes, cause moderate gusts of south wind in some areas such as Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
The combination of humid air from the Pacific and this anticyclonic system may also leave isolated rains in the center and south of the country.
