Warning: This article contains spoilers for the last episode of Prince Charming.
First of all, Diego explains why he chose Joey in the first place and let Cyrano go. “What do you choose? And based on what?” he begins his story. “The moment I started dating Joey, I was devastated. I was exhausted from everything that had happened,” he explains. “I started it and I was so tired, and he said to me, ‘That’s totally fine.’ Then I could release my fatigue from the whole journey with him.”
For Diego that is a positive thing at that moment. “If you’re completely burned out and that you can still be yourself and that’s okay.”
This comes as a surprise to Cyrano. “But also reassurance that he chose Joey. Joey is of course a very good boy. So what I left behind was good.” Diego has already told that he had sex on one of the dates. That wasn’t with Joey, who he chose, but with Cyrano. That doesn’t surprise Joey, he says.
Once back in the Netherlands, it’s up to Joey and Diego to discover whether the love between them will last longer. During that adventure, Joey finds himself slamming on the brakes. “The feeling that I’m just driving out of built-up areas and Diego is already on the highway,” he says. Diego then mentions the third date, where he gets a kiss on the forehead upon entry. Then he already knows what time it is. “At that moment I really thought: it’s done. We are not on the same level.” Joe finds this very uncomfortable. “I can’t answer what you need. I didn’t fall in love, maybe because Diego was already so in love.”
The moment Joey quits, Diego feels disbelief. “I almost even felt a little offended. From: what are you throwing away, or what are you putting out on the street? I felt very passed over.” Eventually we started talking and now they understand better what is going on with the other person. Joey indicates that there is still a lot of turmoil in his life. “And that I can draw the conclusion that I may not be ready for a relationship at all.” That makes Joey feel guilty. “Then I would not have taken on this adventure at all and he might have chosen someone else.”
Although it didn’t work out with Joey, Diego has built a connection with another candidate of the program. “We take it very easy,” he says. “It is very nice what we now have and are investigating, because he can give me a very safe and familiar feeling. It can go crazy and I also have feelings for this person.”
Who is it about? None other than Cyrano, who says he is the one who started texting. “In the beginning it felt like a second choice,” he admits honestly. “But we’ve discussed it many times. We’re still at the beginning of everything, so maybe it’s a very nice friendship, maybe there’s more to come. We don’t know that yet.”
Thus, the Prince Charming fairy tale of Diego and Cyrano ends exactly the same as that of Marvin and Ferdi from the first season. Marvin initially chose Marnix, but eventually came up with Ferdi. They are now engaged, so who knows what the future holds for Diego and Cyrano…
