Virgil van Dijk has been named in the FIFA World Team of the Year. The defender of Liverpool, present at the gala in Paris, was the only Dutch candidate for the team.
“I am proud to be here, among these fantastic players,” said the international of Orange. “It’s been an interesting and eventful year for me. Last season we fought for four trophies with Liverpool until the last minute. Unfortunately we didn’t win them all, but still. This election is also a very nice reward.”
Vivianne Miedema, also international for the Dutch national team, was not chosen among the women. The Arsenal striker, recovering from a serious injury, was nominated.
