It is gradually coming to an end for large engines, especially when they also have many cylinders. For example, Aston Martin already revealed that its current V12 Vantage will also be the last V12 Vantage, and the very last car with the iconic W16 engine has just gone under the hammer at Bugatti. It will soon be replaced by a crazy power source with hybrid assistance, and that is about to happen at Lamborghini… but not before the V12 is allowed to be in the spotlight one last time or two.
The best of Lambo’s design
Lamborghini has sent a duo of V12 croquettes into the world, and they look extra tasty for the occasion. Both the Autentica and the Invencible are based on the carbon fiber monocoque of the Aventador, but clearly pour their own sauce over the now 12-year-old basis. That sauce was prepared by Lamborghini’s own Centro Stile and therefore contains the best ingredients of their most iconic creations, from the razor-sharp Sesto Elemento to the aerodynamic Veneno.
Under the skin, the two then share their power source, which of course concerns the well-known 6.5-liter V12 engine that the Italians have been planting between the axles of their models for years. In this case, however, the block offers the same specs as in the Aventador Ultimae – you know, that Lamborghini that we thought a year and a half ago would be the last with V12. This Autentica and Invencible also send a handsome 780 hp and 720 Nm of torque to their four wheels; still the largest numbers Lamborghini ever managed to extract from the block in production form.
On to electrification
Although the two newcomers share a lot of design elements, according to the developers, there are enough differences to stick to individual names. For example, the Invencible is clearly a coupé, while the roof of the Autentica can be taken off to hear that V12 howl echoing from the walls. However, you have to look closely in advance to distinguish the two, while at the back they get their own design. For example, the bumper is different, and in the case of the Autentica it visually connects the two upright rear wings, while the Invencible sticks to a traditional spoiler. The most striking difference, however, is in the paint color, because indeed: the Autentica is in the ‘Grigio Titans’ and the Invencible shows off ‘Rosso Efesto’.
That is also the case for every Autentica and Invencible, because Lamborghini only builds them in an edition of one copy. We don’t know how much they will cost, but something tells us that their prices will defy the limits of reasonable anyway. It is therefore difficult to put a price on the very last Lambos ever with a V12, and also the very last Lambos ever without electrical assistance. Within a few weeks, the Italians will already present their hybrid replacement for the Aventador, and from next year the entire range must be electrified.
