In recent days we have seen that Netflix has launched an ordeal to the possibility of sharing accounts. According to the streaming platform, there are more than 100 million households sharing the password to see their contents and that supposes a loss of potential subscribers and profits, so they have decided to cut their losses: either share only within the home, or pay extra to do it with friends or family who live outside.
We were clear that Netflix’s plan is end shared accounts before March or make them profitable with an extra price before that date. However, there has been some confusion in recent times about how it would work. Establish a “Netflix home”, connect from a specific IP every month to validate devices, etc. Finally, we already have final resolution by Netflix Spain… and you will have to go through the box.
Do you want to share Netflix account? pay more
As the platform itself acknowledges in the tweet in which they have presented the new ways of sharing Netflix, “we know there is a lot of confusion”, so we are going to try to shed a little light on it.

After different pilot tests in Latin American countries, Netflix presents its new options and restrictions to share an account and it has touched us Spain as a pioneer country, along with Canada, New Zealand and Portugal. The main change, once they had already insisted that “a Netflix account is intended for people who live together in the same household”, is the possibility of buy extra members who are not part of our home circle.
These extra profiles will be priced at 5.99 euros per month per person, which will be added to the price of the plan you are currently subscribed to. These changes have immediate effect in our country, beginning to be applied from today, February 8, 2023.
Set your primary location and devices
In addition, other key points about the future of shared accounts have been announced. For example, it confirms the need for set up a “Netflix Home”, the configuration of the main location from which the user who is subscribed to the service will connect. They will have to configure this tool to ensure that any user connecting from the same home, and therefore the same IP, can view the content without restrictions.
There will also be a new option to manage devices. In this way, they can control who accesses their account through a new tab that will appear in the configuration options of a customer account.
If a member had a profile on a shared account, they will now be able to transfer this profile to a new account in case you want to separate from the one to which you were linked if you do not want to pay the extra 5.99 euros per month and you prefer to open an independent account.
Finally, it is confirmed that, despite these efforts so that no one sees the contents outside the subscriber’s home, it will not apply to seeing them yourself while you travel: “Subscribers will be able to watch Netflix on their personal devices or sign in on another TV (at a hotel or vacation rental, for example).”
