NEW YORK – Buffalo, the second largest city in the state of New York, United States of America (USA), was rocked by an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter Scale (SR) on Monday (6/2/2023).
“The shaking was the strongest in the area for four decades but caused no material damage,” said a statement by local authorities.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), nearly 3,000 local residents felt the quake, which occurred at around 6:15 a.m.
The earthquake struck 2 km east-northeast of West Seneca, a suburb of Buffalo, with a depth of 3 km.

Governor Kathy Hochul posted a tweet confirming the quake, writing, “No damage reported at this time.”
The Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services deputy commissioner, Gregory J Butcher, said the shock wave was felt as far north as Niagara Falls, and in Orchard Park to the south.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz described the quake feeling “like a car hitting my house in Buffalo.” He confessed, “Jumped out of bed.”
