The walls along the Utrechtsebaan, the A12 stretch in The Hague, had been cleaned this weekend after slogans had been chalked on them at the end of last year. It read, among other things, ‘Stop fossil subsidies’.
25,000 euros cleaning costs
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the costs of cleaning it amounted to more than 25,000 euros, she announced today.
The VVD party leader in the council of The Hague was very happy with the cleaning action, she wrote on Twitter: “The slogans on the walls along the Utrechtsebaan have (finally) been removed. The walls could use a lick of paint.”
Behavior prompt
But yesterday activists tried to smear the walls again. The same slogan appeared again over the cleaned walls. Five people were therefore arrested.
The public prosecutor then gave them a so-called ‘behavioral instruction’. They are not allowed on the Utrechtsebaan for ninety days.
They will also have to appear in court on suspicion of, among other things, vandalism. As part of that process, the damage can also be recovered from them. And that can cost thousands of euros.
