Jenna Ortega is today one of the most recognized actresses in the world for her role as “Merlina”, the hit Netflix series.
Although she seems a woman full of confidence and self-assurance, Jenna Ortega shares that this was not always the case, because when she was a teenager she suffered bullying, and that the consequences of this lasted a long time.
It was in a recent interview that Jenna Ortega gave where she referred to this stage of her life. For the actress it was quite traumatic. Soon the news was viral on social networks, it is that many had a hard time believing that someone was making fun of her and she did it for a physical quality that was hard for her to hide so as not to be attacked.
Everything changed with the premiere of “Merlina” but that did not prevent her from being laughed at before. As detailed, the alleged “defect” for which they made fun of her was her hair. In this sense, she maintained that it was not only because her hair was always very dark, but also because she was “very hairy” in general. She even explained that the fact that she was “Latin” also earned her more than one criticism. “I was very hairy. I have dark hair. I’m Latina,” Jenna Ortega confessed, remembering that all this led her to panic about showing herself as she was.
“I remember that I was insecure about the hair on my legs, but more about the hair on my arms,” added the actress after assuring that they went so far as to give her a more than horrible nickname in those years. The protagonist of “Merlina” explained that “there was a girl, whom I considered my ‘friend’, who told me that she had gorilla arms. That’s what she called them, because she had really long hair on her arms.” She added that it all happened when “I was in sixth grade” and that the situation began to improve when her mother “finally let me shave my legs, and she taught me how to do it”.
But when Jenna Ortega came out of the bathroom that day her mother “realized that I had also shaved my arms.” Bullying for being hairy affected her in such a way that the actress continues to shave her arms every day. “It was a very deep insecurity and no one addressed it again but, to this day, I shave my arms every day,” she concluded.
