Minister Ollongren sends an update of the aid to the House of Representatives every month. In the most recent update of December 16, the counter stood at 987 million.
A week later, Prime Minister Mark Rutte promised in a telephone conversation with Volodimir Zelenski that the Netherlands would contribute another 2.5 billion this year.
About half of the Dutch contribution is in the form of items. This has consequences for the readiness of the Dutch armed forces, but the Ministry of Defense considers this still acceptable, according to the minister. Nevertheless, the minister believes it is necessary to draw up a plan to keep the impact under control in the longer term. We are working on that now, she says.
The items that the Dutch armed forces immediately gave away had a value of about 463.8 million euros. However, if the Netherlands replaces these items, as is the intention, the bill will be much higher. According to the minister, the so-called replacement value is 771.3 million.
Financial support
In addition to the support in the form of equipment, there is also financial support, including through funds. In the meantime, money is also coming back to the Netherlands from the so-called European Peace Facility (EPF). That money will be released in parts. So far, the Netherlands has been compensated for 62.9 million euros.
Many countries have recently been giving more and more support. For example, Germany and the United States also promised to supply tanks at the end of last month. Ukraine also wants fighter jets.
