Reviews of Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard continue, now under the scrutiny of the UK Market and Competition Authority (CMA). Regulatory body that has delivered preliminary conclusions about the merger, which despite not being conclusive, have not been very optimistic for Microsoft.
This since in the document published by the CMA, it is indicated that if the company completes the purchase of Activision Blizzard, it could not only have a negative effect on prices, which would increase, as well as a reduction in the options available to users and undermine innovation.

And even worse, the interim report contains a quote from Microsoft itself, who acknowledges that Xbox Game Pass badly affects the sale of video games that are added to this subscription service. According to the CMA, “Microsoft also presented that its internal analysis shows a decrease of % (number was hidden) in sales of the base game twelve months after its incorporation into Game Pass.”
Something that in any case is completely contrary to what the Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said in an interview with Level Up in 2018 (via Xataka), where he indicates that “when you publish a video game like ‘Forza Horizon 4’ on With Game Pass, you immediately have more players enjoying it, which leads to more people buying it, citing State of Decay 2 as an example, which according to him “sold amazingly” during the month it was released on Game Pass.
