When one speaks today of Metal, Heavy metal, and other subgenres, different exponents are named, from Metálica, Scorpions, Black Sabbath to Iron Maiden; however, an undisputed figure in the musical world is Alice Cooperwho made an important contribution to the metal scene worldwide and who is 75 years old today.
Vincent Damon Furnier, born February 4, 1954 in Detroit United States, but when he started his career in music he changed his name to Alice Cooper.
Alice’s most important contribution to the scene was something that was coined as Shock Rock, a way to show the songs along with theatrical performances.
The influence was soon adopted by bands like Kiss, and even today Rammstein, industrial metal band, has embraced this influence and performs histrionics in some of their live shows.
The path of Alice Cooper
With the band of the same name, Alice Cooper recorded 5 studio albumsbut by 1975 the band stopped walking, and the then vocalist took his own solo path, making two studio albums, already with a pure Heavy Metal sound, which influenced others such as Bon Jovi, with whom Alice recorded various musical demos.
Already entered the new century Marlyn Manson, Guns N’ Rosesamong other bands also began to draw on the sound influence provided by Cooper on his latest LPs.
Even in 2010 he collaborated with Slashinterpreting the song “Baby can’t drive”, undoubtedly an undisputed figure in the world of rock, but who has been overshadowed by other great exponents with greater commercial success, however, several of them with North American influences.
