Sumatran voice – Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri is back in the spotlight after discussing women recitation.
Megawati’s speech alluded to the issue of women reciting recitations allegedly containing elements of gender labeling. The former President of the Republic of Indonesia was then reported to Komnas Perempuan.
Senior journalist Hersubeno Arief highlighted the report by the Yogyakarta Coalition of Human Rights Activists to Komnas Perempuan on allegations of gender labeling by Megawati.
Hersubeno also uploaded a video titled Megawati Reported to Komnas Perempuan, Gegara Ibu Recitation on Hersubeno Point’s YouTube channel recently.

“This is interesting, yes, later according to Tri that it (Megawati’s speech) was considered one of labeling and a kind of gender insensitive,” said Hersubeno, quoted on Thursday (23/2/2023).
It is known that Tri or Tri Wahyu is the coordinator of the Yogyakarta Human Rights Coalition who reported Megawati’s speech to Komas Perempuan.
Tri suspects that Megawati’s speech about women reciting recitations contains an indication of gender labeling or a form of gender injustice in which mothers who enjoy reciting recitations abandon their children.
Tri admitted that he did not find a database showing how active mothers went to recitation and then threw their children, both from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. , as well as related agencies at the regional level.
The Yogyakarta Human Rights Coalition Coordinator regretted Megawati’s attitude, especially considering her positions at BRIN and BPIP.

According to him, Megawati should have been able to put forward a wise attitude before acting, especially in public spaces.
On the other hand, General Secretary of Baitul Muslimin Indonesia (Bamusi) Nasyirul Falah Amru (Gus Falah) defended the statement by the Chairman of the PDIP.
“He explained that Megawati’s intention was that she was surprised that mothers liked to take part in recitations, not forbidding mothers from taking part in recitations. Falah said Megawati only asked mothers to be balanced in reciting the Koran and taking care of their children,” explained Hersubeno.
On a separate occasion, Gus Falah conveyed his interpretation through a written statement. According to him, Megawati meant that mothers could balance their worldly and afterlife affairs so that stunting and so on could be avoided.
What’s more, Megawati also apologized earlier in her speech and asked that she not be bullied for her opinion regarding women recitation.
“So, all parties should not fry news that is not based on Mrs Megawati’s true statement,” said Gus Falah.
Megawati speech
Megawati delivered her speech regarding women reciting recitations when filling out the Pancasila In Action kick off event which was broadcast on the BKKBN YouTube channel, Thursday (16/2/2023).
“I see ladies, yes, I’m sorry, now it seems like the culture, thousands of apologies, don’t be bullied later, why are you so happy to take part in recitations? Yes, yes, sorry, thousands of apologies, I even thought that, this is recitation until when to yo, amalle arep what do you want (what do you want your child to do)?” said Megawati in her speech.
He explained that he did not mean to prohibit mothers from attending the study, because he himself had also attended the study.
However, he will ask the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini to make management of the family household.
