President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Bogor City, West Java Province, Monday (27/2/2023).
During the meeting, Jokowi emphasized his support for ensuring the elimination of violence against women and the implementation of the Law on Crimes of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS).
“From this brief discussion, the President emphasized his support for ensuring the elimination of violence against women, including in terms of implementing the Law on Crime of Sexual Violence and pushing for a better legal umbrella for working women, especially women domestic workers,” said the Chair. Komnas Perempuan, Andy Yentriyani, in his statement after the meeting, quoted by Mamagini from the Press Bureau, Media and Information, Presidential Secretariat, Monday (27/2/2023).
During the meeting, Komnas Perempuan also conveyed several important situations related to eliminating violence against women, including increasing reporting of cases of violence, especially sexual violence.

“This is also related to the situation of women in situations of conflict and disaster, working women, and women who are prisoners who face the law or face various forms of punishment or other cruel and inhumane treatment,” he added.
In addition, Jokowi and Komnas Perempuan also discussed more specific follow-ups by ministries/agencies related to non-judicial mechanisms in resolving past human rights violations in various national action plans.
Some of them are the national action plan for human rights, the national action plan for tackling extremism that leads to terrorism, and the condition of women against legal views, including for example the death penalty as well as various discriminatory policy situations in several regions in Indonesia.
“Currently there is also an acceleration to carry out Komnas Perempuan’s institutional strength including to make changes to the Presidential Regulation both related to the structure of Komnas Perempuan, as well as various possibilities to strengthen the welfare of Komnas Perempuan staff,” she stated.
