Russian athletes will not be welcome at next year’s Paris Olympics if the war in Ukraine is still ongoing. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, reported this on Twitter on Tuesday.
“As long as Russia continues to wage war against Ukraine, I don’t want a Russian delegation to be present at the Olympics,” Hidalgo said. “I would find that indecent.”
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced last week that it is investigating whether athletes from Russia and Belarus can still participate in the Games under a neutral flag and under all kinds of conditions. President Volodimir Zelensky of Ukraine had just asked the French president to completely ban Russia and Belarus from the Games in Paris.
