Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters next week and fans are wondering what the movie will reveal about the Quantum realm.
Cinemascomics was able to attend the press conference of Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which its protagonists participated, the director Peyton Reed, the producer Stephen Broussard as well as the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige who gave an explanation of what the quantum realm movie will reveal that we have not seen so far.
“Well, we first saw it in the first ‘Ant-Man’ movie. And I was recently reminded that this was an idea that Paul (Rudd) had before we started shooting the first ‘Ant-Man’ movie, to, ‘What if we explore this quantum mechanics,’ which I’m happy to discuss. long today if you want. Things act very differently at the quantum level. And Paul was talking about how much story and imagination and fun you could have there.”
a new universe
“The first Ant-Man movie was mostly about getting to know the characters and the origin story, of course, but at the end of that, we got a taste of it, and that’s what led to where we took it in Avengers: Endgame. And it is a place that is at the subatomic level where space and time act differently. That allowed us to travel back in time, at Scott Lang’s suggestion, in ‘Endgame.’ And he allowed us to have all this manic Quantum-ness in this movie, where we got to a point that only Janet had ever seen before and, as Evangeline said, she didn’t talk about it too much, where there’s a whole universe under the surface, where we meet all kinds of fun and crazy characters.”
Kevin Feige also spoke about the visual aspect of this world: “Well, Peyton (Reed), I think you can talk a little more about that, because it was in the works for 3.5 years, working on this look and taking the public to a place where they had not been before. We talk a lot about the parallels to The Wizard of Oz in terms of taking and meeting a family there. But the images, which have been in the works for a long time, were all of Peyton and his team.”
What inspired the visual design of the Quantum Realm?
Peyton Reed then spoke of her inspiration to create the quantum realm: “Yeah, several things. We looked at everything from electron microscope photography to heavy metal objects to magazines from the ’70s and ’80s, and we wanted to bring all of these elements. There’s a little sword and sorcery element, and then there’s a real, like, you know, Mobius. We just wanted to put together a team of artists and say we’re creating the Quantum Realm. You know, none of the other Marvel movies have really dealt with it, and I want to create this very vivid world that has its own internal story and internal logic and, you know, who are the creatures in there and who are the people in there, and How do you travel? What are the laws of physics? All
these things needed to be resolved. So Will Htay, our production designer, we got this crazy bunch of visual artists together and said just bring some of your, you know, the most fantastic ideas to the table and let’s figure out what it could be. Because we want to take these characters that the audience has come to know, and send them on this journey and go through these very strange lands and just have fun with it. It was a part of the MCU that we were free to create on our own, and it was one of the most exciting things about it.”
