José Luis Martínez-Almeida, mayor of Madrid, understands that politics arouses disaffection in citizens. “I think that what Feijóo said yesterday there is a good part of the citizens who also think so,” he points out in relation to the opinion of the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on the future of politics.
He believes that the polls show them as winners of the next elections and that is why the PSOE attacks the PP. “They want to keep pace with us continuously and the PSOE is more concerned with the PP than with its own position.”
“Ramón Tamames’ motion of no confidence is not going to succeed”
He shares with Ramón Tamames that the government must be changed but he believes that in the municipal and regional elections a turnaround can be made at the polls in both May and December. “That does more damage than Ramón Tamames’ motion of censure,” he affirms.
The mayor of Madrid believes that Pedro Sánchez has designed his campaign and the founding element is Vox’s motion of no confidence that will not succeed. “Spain has very serious problems to lead to a motion,” he adds. He believes that Vox is launching the idea of the motion even though it is understood that it is not a useful instrument for Spain but rather one of particular benefit to Vox. It seems that the motion was not so urgent. Vox has become involved with the passage of time and has pulled an independent figure”.
The position of the PP regarding Vox
According to the latest SigmaDos survey, the PP depends on Vox to be able to govern. He affirms that in the Madrid City Council it has not been easy to get along with Vox or Ortega Smith “who, with their 4 councilors, have blocked opportunities for the City Council, such as the budgets.” “If Vox has to block, it will block. There is no doubt about that for the Spanish.”
“Pedro Sánchez has been able to get all his budgets despite having a mix of different parties, while Ayuso and I have not been able to because Vox has blocked approval, with a very small number of councilors and deputies in relation to the total” , maintains the first aedile.
“Pedro Sánchez has to appear to explain his management of the war in Ukraine”
In the opinion of Martínez-Almeida, President Sánchez has to give explanations in Parliament about his management of the war in Ukraine. “Even if he did it in Ukraine, he also has to do it in Spain. To give explanations about the situation. We agree that we must give him as much material help as possible, but a matter of this magnitude must be discussed in Congress and the president have to show their faces”.
