Actor Mark Wahlberg has never renounced his Catholic faith, but he knows that this is not entirely well seen in the Hollywood film industry.
In a recent interview with Today, the actor Mark Wahlberg has revealed how faith handles a world as complex as Hollywood.
“That discipline has given me many other things. I want to share that with people. So whether it’s fasting, exercising more, detaching from other things, and just spending more time with God in prayer or thoughtful reflection, those things are important.”
“Faith is everything, it has given me so many things. God did not come to save the saints. He came to save sinners… We want to be better versions of ourselves, and by focusing my faith, he has allowed me to do that.”
The actor has to balance his professional career and defend and spread the faith.
Mark Wahlberg He said, “I don’t want to shove it down anybody’s throat, but I don’t deny my faith. That is an even greater sin. You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but, you know, I can’t deny my faith. It’s important to me to share that with people. I have friends from all walks of life and from all different kinds of beliefs and religions, so you know, it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”
The actor put money out of his pocket to make the film Father Stu (2022), which is a drama about the true story of Stuart Long, an amateur boxer who becomes a Catholic priest.
“I passed the script on to a couple of people who I thought might understand it, and they didn’t. And obviously, it’s subjective. You have your own feeling of what the material is. Some people thought it was depressing because he’s sick at the end. They didn’t see the heart and emotion and ultimately how inspiring it is.”
“Let’s say I put millions and millions of dollars into the movie, and then I incurred other costs because we went over the production schedule.” he concluded Mark Wahlberg.
The play went well for him, since Father Stu It cost about $4 million and grossed about $21 million.
