In May 2021, a group of gamers filed a lawsuit against PlayStation for alleged antitrust practices with the PS Store. The conflict was dismissed in July 2022, but the plaintiffs resubmitted their complaint with some modifications and the judge in charge of the case has now accepted them.
The authorities initially rejected the claim for some inconsistencies, but the plaintiffs rectified them months after the dismissal. Now, the lawsuit has advanced and Sony Interactive Entertainment will have to answer to the authorities in a hearing.

Players revive lawsuit against PlayStation and authorities support them
The conflict started when Sony banned the sale of codes to download games on third-party sites and stores. This made certain PlayStation content only available through its store. The class action lawsuit argues that Sony takes advantage of the lack of competition to have high prices and not give alternatives to its users.
Richard Seeborg, a judge for the United States District Court in California, dismissed the initial lawsuit as insufficient or convincing evidence was presented to prove PlayStation’s guilt. The case was left open with the possibility that the plaintiffs will present their complaint again.
After ironing out the inconsistencies and collecting evidence, the users sued again, this time successfully. Seeborg took up the case, stating that the change in PlayStation’s policies could be seen as an attempt to eliminate potential competitors.
It’s worth remembering that, in August 2022, another class action lawsuit accused PlayStation of “frauding customers” with its PlayStation Store policies. As of this writing, there is still no verdict on the conflicts.
PlayStation and Sony will have to explain themselves to the authorities in the coming days. At the same time, they will also have to deal with everything related to Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard.
