(ANSAmed) – BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 02 – The extraordinary session of the Serbian parliament dedicated to the Kosovo crisis, which was opened by President Aleksandar Vucic, degenerated into riots and incidents in the hall. The tension gradually rose after the opening of the debate and the first critical interventions of the deputies of the nationalist opposition, who with placards and banners accused Vucic of ‘capitulation’ before the West, ‘betrayal’ and of having accepted the independence of Pristina with the European plan. Vucic, sitting under the presidency, has long replied to the accusations, in turn reproaching the opposition forces for having been responsible – when they were in government in past years – for having favored the secession of Pristina. Between screams and chants, a physical confrontation came close when a few dozen opposition deputies tried to approach the president, in a threatening tone. ‘You are just hooligans who have brought the country to ruin”, shouted the president, supported by applause from the benches of the majority. Previously Vucic, responding to the observations of the opposition who asked to know the content of the European plan – had said that he had not come to parliament to illustrate the plan and to ask for a yes or no to this text, but that he wanted to illustrate the difficult situation in which Serbia finds itself, and the heavy consequences for the country in case of refusal of this document. “The opposition has no valid arguments and creates incidents showing its true nature as an enemy of the country,” Vucic said in the fiery din of the courtroom. After about ten minutes of high tension, calm has returned to the hall, and the debate on Kosovo should continue. (ANSAmed).
