Esther Kiel turned out to be the big winner on the final day of the Grand Prix on natural ice. The 26-year-old skater from the BDM-BTZ team won the final Sea Ice Classic in Lulea over a total of 102 kilometers and thus immediately took the overall victory in the Grand Prix.
Kiel beat Roza Blokker and Beau Wagemaker in the sprint of a leading group of ten women. That leading group of ten women determined the image of the last game of this season on natural ice, which had a compact peloton for a long time. In the last part of the game on the ice of the Gulf of Bothnia, Kiel, among others, took the initiative for the decisive breakaway.
In the end she got nine wives. In the decisive sprint, she mainly had to deal with the surprising Blokker. Behind that, Wagemaker raced to her second podium finish this week in Lulea. In the standings, Kiel also dethroned Sharon Hendriks, who rode her last race on natural ice and will retire definitively after this season.
