We’re still digesting James Gunn’s announcements of DC Studios movies and series that will make up Chapter 1 of the DC Universe now that he and Peter Safran they have taken command. The Thing of the Marsh (Swamp Thing) is one of those projects, and it could find its director in the figure of James Mangold.
The filmmaker and screenwriter of films like Logan or on the tightrope expressed some time ago his interest in collaborating with James Gunn. This week, shortly after the co-CEO of DC Studios announced the first DC Universe projects, Mangold shared an image of Swamp Thing.
In fact, in The Hollywood Reporter they state that the director is in talks to direct the movie based on comics about the character created by Len Wein and Berni Wrightson.
However, this can be a problem, at least if the filmmaker wants to continue with his roadmap, which would already have the next film decided.
Could James Mangold direct Swamp Thing?
The director and screenwriter is about to release Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate, the fifth film in the saga in which Mangold replaces Steven Spielberg. After the film premiered, his plan was to tackle the Bob Dylan biopic.
Of course, if he intends to direct Swamp Thing, this is a conflict. If James Gunn and Peter Safran want the DC movie to come out in 2025 and Mangold wants to direct the Dylan biopic sooner, things would be pretty complicated.

The situation changes if the margin allows it to be released in 2026 or 2027, since the deadlines for the long post-production process become much more affordable.
In any case, it’s not even remotely confirmed that James Mangold has signed on to direct Swamp Thing. For now we can only wait and see how events unfold.
