If his work in the Avatar saga allowed him, James Cameron could create a Spiderman for a more adult audience, just as he imagined 30 years ago
before even Sam Raimi began his trilogy on Spiderman, James Cameron was shaping what was to be his first film in the superhero genrebut it takes a few years, the project was rejected by Sony Pictures as we have already told you. We have even been able to see how this Spidey would turn out with the actor who would have starred in it. You have the links at the end of the article.
But we wonder if that more adult version, for a less childish audience, would have a place in the Spiderverse of Sony in these times in which the Multiverse has been used to bring back characters from past films. The possibility that the most profitable director in the history of cinema could direct a Trepamuros movie is not bittersweet, quite the contrary.
If, in addition, Cameron puts aside that crusade against superhero movies, the combination could lead to a new way of seeing and enjoying Peter ParkerSpidey.
James Cameron’s Spiderman
Cameron’s version of Spider-Man was much darker., much more adult. she even boarded topics like sexualityincluding scenes of that nature, and a pretty strong language. These were the main reasons why Sony scrapped the project and why, years later, the studio hired Raimi to make a trilogy.
Obviously, Cameron still had years of filming to get to ‘Titanic‘, and later giving the pitch of his life with the ‘Avatar’ saga, in order to have enough weight as a successful filmmaker to carry out that Spidey project. Nor was he a rookie, the director was already savoring the sweetness of triumph with proposals such as ‘Terminator: Judgment Day‘, o ‘aliens the return‘.
The question is, Will Sony pass up the opportunity for Cameron to make a big production with an IP like Spider-Man’s? From this perspective it seems that it would not be a wise idea to let the possibility pass. Difficult? A lot, but not impossible. It is true, that even if there was a good predisposition on Cameron’s part, he is so totally involved with ‘Avatar 3‘ and its aftermath, which really seems like a pipe dream.
With a Spiderverse that is giving its beginnings, with more tumbles than anything else, if not with the association of Marvel Studios, the necessary conditions are given for the addition of a new Spiderman. Or a reformulation with the essence of the character, such as a clone, Ben Reillyo Miles Morales, with this, the director would have the opportunity to approach this genre in his own way. And if he does it with the same success as with ‘Avatar’, the result could be simply spectacular.
Make a version closer to Nolan’s or Reeves’s Batman than to Spider-Man of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield o Tom Holland. The interest of the spectators would be assured, and the collection at the box office practically assured. For the image of Sony Pictures and that of its Spiderverse it would be a great value addition. A shared success.
The details of Cameron’s script gave new personalities to The Sandman and Electro, and J. Jonah Jamenson would have been a television executive instead of the director and owner of the Daily Bugle. The same is time to continue developing this script and for Sony to consider hiring the most profitable director. Now it would only be missing that Cameron’s ego would allow him to undertake this adventure.
