Il Imola GP is back on the WorldSBK calendar, after three seasons of absence. The seventh appointment of the year will go on stage from 14 to 16 July. All three classes will take to the track at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Circuit in Imola.
Imola’s first appearance on the WorldSBK calendar dates back to 2001, followed by the unforgettable season finale in 2002 with Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss as protagonists, as well as the second world title won by Bayliss in 2006.
Gregory LavillaWorldSBK Executive Director, is pleased to welcome back to the calendar at Imola: “After three seasons we are thrilled to welcome back on the Imola calendar for 2023. This second Round in Italy confirms the popularity of the Championship among Italian enthusiasts, recalling the presence of many Italian riders and teams in our paddock. Imola boasts an illustrious history in World Superbike and we can’t wait to experience the 2023 Round of Italy which promises to be exciting for all the fans”.
Peter Welcome, General Manager of the International Autodrome Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola is delighted with the return of WorldSBK to Imola: “It is with great satisfaction that we announce this agreement with the Dorna WSBK Organization which brings Imola back to the prestigious WorldSBK calendar. We know that there are many enthusiasts who will not want to miss this appointment for anything in the world given that Imola has strong ties to this Championship. There will be a world champion on the track astride a Ducati, without a doubt this is a good reason for many fans of the “Rossa” to watch the show from the track. The choice of the month of July is strategic for the region since it will open up business opportunities in a period in which accommodation capacities are not completely sold out, confirming the role of the circuit as a driving force of the local economy. It is a great result made possible thanks to the full support of the municipal administration which strongly backed the return of the Superbike to Imola”.
