Chapter 3 of The Last of Us continues to talk about and the criticism does not stop. The story of Bill and Frank received a wave of negative reviews with clearly homophobic overtones. This upset actor Rahul Kohli, who came to the defense of the production since he is a big fan of the franchise.
Through an Instagram post, the actor stated that many people are masking their homophobia with comments against the series and make it clear that they are bothered by LGBTQIA+ representation in the media. He argued that the series is a faithful adaptation, since the Naughty Dog game already had such content. So he asked annoying people and haters to stop watching the series.

“Many mask their homophobia with ‘Why can’t you stick to the game?’ Others just don’t want LGBTQIA+ representation in mainstream media,” Kohli said at the beginning of his message.
Later, he pointed out to the fans who are asking for a faithful adaptation shot by shot, because he believes that it does not make sense and that they should better enjoy the game again. From his perspective, the HBO production has value since it takes advantage of the strengths of television to offer us a different story and delve into relevant things.
Likewise, he believes that the criticism of the series is unfounded, since the game as such has LGBTQIA+ representations. For this reason, he thinks that haters have no basis for real criticism, so he asked them to stop watching the series if they can’t handle something “too diverse.”
“I want TV and film to play to their strengths and give me an alternative perspective, delve into the human condition, spend more time on the characters. Otherwise, what’s the point? The protagonist of The Last of Us is Ellie, not Joel. Ellie is gay. This has not been added retroactively. This was further explored in the Left Behind DLC that released in 2014. This is and always has been a progressive series. Bill was also gay. This is a faithful adaptation.
“If The Last of Us is too diverse/progressive for you, I think you should stop watching it. It is his story from 2014. There are countless stories that completely avoid representation. I do not know what to tell you. Look at them instead,” the actor concluded.
