Previously, it should be noted that the method of determining 1 Ramadhan between NU and Muhammadiyah has differences so that the decisions taken by the two largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia will also of course be different.
Nahdlatul Ulama or NU uses the rukyat method by observing the new moon directly. The new moon is generally observed on the 29th day of the Hijri calendar month to ensure that there is a change in the next month.
Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah uses the reckoning or calculation method in determining 1 Ramadhan and the difference in this method makes the two different in determining the beginning of the fasting month.
Usually, Muhammadiyah’s decision to determine 1 Ramadhan is one day earlier than NU’s.
To mediate these differences, the government is here to hold an Isbat Assembly which considers all the recognized methods for establishing 1 Ramadhan.
